Ft. Myers Beach is the "happening" locale on Southwest Florida's Lee Island Gulf Coast. Located on the beautiful Estero Island, Ft. Myers Beach is both a very hip and laidback beach town experience. Renowned as the "shelling capital" of the world, Sanibel Island is the perfect place to while away the day. Beautiful blue water, brilliant sunlight, palm trees and fabulous white sandy beaches will arouse your senses. Secluded stretches of sand and stunning sunsets seduce many couples, making it and its sister island Captiva, a top destination for a beach wedding or resort honeymoon.
Captiva Island is off the far northern end of Sanibel and was voted by Condé Nast as among the "Best North American Islands". In fact, North America's foremost beach authority, Dr. Stephen Leatherman (aka Dr. Beach) not only crowned Captiva the most romantic U.S. beach destination, he awarded it the title two years in a row. And, being so well renowned for its secluded and romantic beaches, Captiva is an ideal place for a beach wedding and honeymoon. Captiva's Chapel by the Sea is the perfect place to exchange seaside vows.
Captiva's seclusion makes it easy to fill your days. You can take your pick between one of two choices:
Water sports, nature and world-class attractions make St. Pete Beach a year-round beach destination that is home to some of America's most award winning beaches. Caladesi Beach was named America's number two beach in 2006 and 2007 and Fort De Soto was named America's number one beach in 2005. With its continuous action and plenty to do both on and off shore, St. Petersburg Beach is a magnet for families, spring breakers and beachniks alike.
Besides being named America's best beach in 2005, Ft. DeSoto Park is one of the best family beach destinations in the entire state of Florida. Located on the southwest corner of Mullet Key, the entire island is now dedicated to the park. There are 238 family camping sites, two swim centers, two fishing piers, 14 sheltered picnic areas, scattered playgrounds, miles of recreation and nature trails and a historic fort all of which make Ft. DeSoto a nature lover's dream come true.
Ft. De Soto: Built in 1898 to protect Tampa Bay during the Spanish-American War, today it is a historical museum complete with period cannons.
Destin is home to some of the world's most beautiful beaches. The crystal blue clear waters and the sugary white sands of the Emerald Coast beaches provide sunbathers, snorkelers and fisherman alike with a paradise beyond their dreams. They are what make the Destin and Ft. Walton Beach areas one of America's premier vacation destinations. Blessed with 24 miles of pristine beach, it's hard to believe the white sand and emerald waters aren't the main draw, but they have to compete with dolphins leaping just offshore. And, with a science center, marine park and Indian temple to explore, everyone in the family is sure to find something of interest.
Indian Temple Mound and Museum: More than 6000 artifacts bring Native American history to life.

I am surprised that Panama City Beach is not listed. Each year during Spring Break more people come to Panama City Beach than the combined total for the next nine Spring Break destinations. Panama City Beach has been listed on the Top 10 Beaches of the World. It would be listed every year except the creators of the list do not allow repeats. Posted March 05, 2008 |
